Great oral health starts with general dentistry. At Simply Dental, we have all the services needed to diagnose, treat, and prevent common tooth problems for the entire family. We offer regular, routine dental cleanings to brighten your smile and keep it free from decay-causing bacteria, and our technology offers advanced screenings and more effective treatment for many dental issues.
We believe in prevention – proactively stopping a problem before it starts. We promote building a relationship with our patients, and encourage you to take an active role in your oral health. That means starting at the very beginning. We’re here to help you develop proper hygiene habits and teach you how to care for your smile between visits to our office.
A major component of preventive dental care is removing plaque that can lead to gingivitis, gum disease, decay, and other complications. Our professional cleanings will remove plaque from the gum line and surface of the teeth, while fluoride treatments help provide a barrier against decay on the enamel.
Our comprehensive general dentistry is perfect for the whole family. We begin seeing children between ages 2-3, because starting them off on the right path to great oral health is important. We take extra care to ensure that our littlest patients have a happy visit, and our hygienists love to show kids proper brushing techniques.
We provide patient-oriented dental care. No two treatments are the same, because no two smiles are either. When you first arrive for a general dentistry appointment, we’ll offer a comprehensive exam to assess your current oral health. From there, we’ll work with you to create a customized treatment plan to get your smile exactly where it needs to be.
The only way to determine your current state of oral health, along with the most appropriate treatment plan, is to complete a comprehensive exam. We go tooth by tooth, checking all areas of your mouth for potential problems and identifying areas of concern. Our exams include a full oral health workup, with oral cancer screenings, perio-charting, occlusal alignment and TMJ checks, and digital 3D x-rays.
Early detection of oral cancer can make a big difference on your prognosis and treatment. We use visual and manual screening methods to check for abnormal tissue around your cheeks, gums, tongue, and other areas of the mouth. We’re equipped with advanced VELscope Enhanced Oral Assessment technology, which uses a wireless, handheld scope to detect abnormalities through natural tissue fluorescence. Alcohol and tobacco use may increase the risks of developing oral cancer, though anyone can be diagnosed with the disease.
Our imaging technology plays a critical role in helping Dr. Clauss see what’s going on under the surface of your mouth. We use high-resolution digital and panoramic x-rays, which deliver a great amount of detail and aid in diagnosing and treating, while exposing you to less radiation than traditional films. We also use cone-beam 3D x-rays for many of our procedures, as we can get precise measurements of different parts of your mouth and can plan for quicker and more accurate treatments.
Our dental hygienists are skilled at removing plaque and tartar build-up from the surface of your teeth, while ensuring your gums stay healthy and your smile sparkles. We use Piezo ultrasonic scalers to rid your teeth of debris that can cause gum disease and cavities. Proper at-home hygiene habits can help make every appointment with our hygienist easy and effective. Let your smile shine with a deep professional clean.
Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease or periodontitis, is inflammation or infection of the gums and if severe, can lead to the loss of bone/tissues that hold your teeth in place. These tissues are the supporting foundation of your teeth and if lost can result in tooth loss. Gum disease can also affect more than just your mouth, it can affect your overall general health. Gum disease has been linked to health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, pregnancy complications, severe osteopenia, respiratory infections, dementia/Alzheimer’s and some types of cancer.
Gum disease is caused by plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that forms constantly on teeth. If plaque is not removed properly, it can cause the gums to pull away from your teeth forming pockets where bacteria collect. If plaque is left on the teeth too long, it hardens into tarter under the gums. These pockets and tarter make it difficult to remove plaque without help from a dentist.
At Simply Dental, we offer periodontal gum treatment, also known as scaling and root planning. This is a procedure involving the removal of plaque and tarter under the gumline and smoothing the root surfaces. It is important to remove this plaque and tarter because it houses bacteria that release toxins which cause inflammation. If this inflammation is not treated, it will destroy the supporting structures of the teeth including the bone.
This procedure involves hand instruments and an ultrasonic scaler. An ultrasonic scaler is an instrument that vibrates at a high frequency to remove the plaque and tarter in the most comfortable way possible. We also offer a site specific antibiotic, called Arestin. This is placed under the gum in the periodontal pocket to help kill bacteria and help heal gums.
Fluoride is an important part of a preventive treatment plan, as it restores essential minerals to the tooth enamel, reducing sensitivity and protecting your teeth from decay. Children benefit from regular fluoride treatments, as it’s vital to the development of healthy teeth. That’s why we recommend a fluoride treatment at every visit, for both children and adults. Brushing with a fluoride toothpaste can help your smile between visits as well.
So, you’ve got a beautiful smile. Now you should protect it. We offer custom-fit mouthguards to save teeth from excessive wear and damage due to activity. For budding athletes, we provide child-sized sports mouthguards, which protect teeth from injury. Adults who suffer from bruxism, or nighttime grinding, can wear a nightguard while they sleep to maintain the integrity of their teeth and prevent unnecessary wear and tear on the surface of the enamel.
Nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” is a safe and effective sedative agent that is used to help you relax. It’s combined with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. This is used to help patients feel more comfortable during certain dental procedures. It is not intended to put you to sleep, but make you feel more at ease. After the nitrous is removed, the effects will wear off right away.
No one plans to have a dental emergency. However, at Simply Dental, we have plans in place to these occasions. We make time in our schedule for patients who are experiencing a sudden dental emergency, and we’ll try to get you into our office the very same day you call. Your time and comfort is important to us, so let us get rid of the discomfort and fix your emergency, so you can get back to the things in your day that matter.
